Full summary

SES.HOSPEDAJES is the digital platform of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior for the mandatory reporting of traveller data by all accommodation providers with overnight stays, including Tourist Use Properties (VUT). Legal basis: Royal Decree 933/2021, of 26 October. Mandatory since 2 December 2024.

Who is required to comply

All owners or managers of accommodation with overnight stays in Spain, except in the Basque Country and Catalonia. The obligation applies even for a single property managed on a non-professional basis.

Required data per traveller

Up to 17 fields per traveller over 14 years of age: full name and surnames, type and number of identity document, document issue date, nationality, date of birth, sex, country of residence, full home address, contact phone number, email address, check-in date, number of travellers in the group and family relationship between group members.

Reporting events and deadlines

Data must be reported immediately and in any case within 24 hours of the following events, pursuant to Royal Decree 933/2021:

  • Booking or contract formalisation
  • Cancellation of the booking or contract, where applicable.
  • Start of service (check-in).

It is not sufficient to report only at check-in: the obligation may arise earlier, at the time of booking.

Data retention

Data reported to SES.HOSPEDAJES must be retained for 3 years from the date of reporting, pursuant to Royal Decree 933/2021.

Data protection — important notice

The AEPD (Spanish Data Protection Agency), in its note of 17 June 2025, clarified that it is prohibited to scan, photograph or keep a copy of travellers' identity documents in any persistent storage format. Reporting is done in real time with data entered manually or via transient OCR, without saving the document image. The submission receipt generated by SES.HOSPEDAJES can and should be retained.

Penalties

Non-compliance is sanctioned with fines of €600 to €30,000 per infraction. Each unreported check-in is a separate infraction.

Platform access

Reporting can be done via direct access to ses.mir.es with a digital certificate or Cl@ve, via API integration for managers with high volumes of stays, or through property management software (PMS) with native integration.
